Young Composers Concert
2010 is the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, a decisive air campaign which began to turn the tide of World War II. This was the inspiration for 25 young, British composers between the ages of 12 and 20, alongside 5 established composers including Cyril Lloyd and Nicholas Paul Simpson to write brand new compositions.
These fine works received their premiere at a not-for-profit concert held on 14th September 2010. They were performed by a 65-strong orchestra, large choir and various smaller ensembles of talented young performers at the concert held in the stunning setting of St. Clement Danes, the R.A.F. church on the Strand, London.
The concert was very well attended, with an audience of over 300 including serving members of the R.A.F. Overall, over £3,100 was raised for our charities, resulting in over £2,400 profit, a stunning achievement. All of the proceeds have been donated to the R.A.F. Benevolent Fund and R.A.F. Association.
Photographs of the event are available on request, and the DVD and double-CD recordings of the concert are both available from Toon du Jour Recordings.
Particular thanks are due to the talented staff and pupils of Sutton Grammar School, the staff and vergers at St. Clement Danes, the composers and orchestra, the many others who helped to stage the concert and, of course, we owe an eternal debt of gratitude to the heroic actions of The Few, without whom this concert would not have taken place.
